Based at Rugby League Central in Sydney, we currently have an opportunity for an experienced and motivated lawyer to join our Integrity & Compliance Unit. The Integrity Unit is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the sport on and off the field, through policy and rule development and implementation, compliance investigations and enforcement action under the Game’s governing rules.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the General Manager Integrity & Senior Legal Counsel, the Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to all areas of the Integrity Unit’s work, playing a critical role in delivering the Game’s commitment to fair competition and ethical behaviour at all levels.
The work of the Integrity Unit covers a broad range of sports integrity, regulatory and compliance issues. The role will involve providing advice and support across areas including:
- Integrity policy development and implementation
- Maintenance and revision of the NRL Rules, including codes of conduct, NRL Judiciary Code, Anti-Doping Rules and the NRL Salary Cap
- Liaising with NRL Clubs in relation to the operation of the NRL Rules and compliance issues
- Investigations and breach processes under the NRL Rules, including the NRL Code of Conduct and Salary Cap Rules
Conduct of the NRL’s Anti-Doping and Illicit & Hazardous Drugs Rules
- Organisation and legal support for the Game’s domestic tribunals
- Gambling, Anti-Match Fixing and other match-day integrity programs
Ensuring regulatory compliance in the integrity space
The role will also liaise closely with other areas of the NRL’s business, including the Legal, Football Operations and Welfare & Education Departments, as well as key external stakeholders such as the NRL Clubs, the Rugby League Players Association and the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority.
