The Hon. Dr Annabelle Bennett AC SC retired as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia in March 2016.
Dr Bennett initially graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Science Degree and subsequently completed a PhD in Cell Biology. Later, she studied Law and practised as a Barrister, specialising in Intellectual Property. She became a Senior Counsel in New South Wales in 1994. She has been awarded Honorary Doctorates by ANU, UNSW, Sydney University and Bond University.
She currently acts as a Consultant Barrister (Senior Counsel) and Mediator/Arbitrator. Her present positions include Chancellor, Bond University (until May 2024); Board member of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and Chair of Gardior Pty Ltd (trustee of The Infrastructure Fund).
Dr Bennett was appointed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. She has been a member of a Panel and Sole Arbitrator in a number of cases in the CAS. She has been a member of the CAS ad hoc Divisions at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi (2014) and Beijing (2022) and Summer Olympic Games in Rio (2016) and Tokyo (2020) and the Commonwealth Games (2022). She has been named as a member of the ad hoc Division for the Summer Olympic Games 2024 (Paris). She has presided over the majority of the Panels on which she served and has also sat as a Sole Arbitrator, including in doping and selection disputes. She is a member of the International Cricket Council Dispute Resolution Committee.
