The Commentator: Volume 79 – 9 August 2010

Welcome to Volume 79 of The Commentator. In the only article of this issue, Dr Chris Davies, Senior Lecturer, James Cook University, Townsville, reviews the legality of salary caps in sport, in light of the recent and ongoing controversy following the discovery of serious breaches of the NRL salary caps by the Melbourne Storm. In his President’s column, Ian Hunt reviews the feast of international sport that this time of year brings and comments on the some of the highs and lows of the Soccer World Cup.
In my editorial I outline the changes to The Commentator and discuss the message that elite sport sends to junior sport when matters such as the Storm’s salary cap breach become public. Anzsla President, Ian Hunt reviews the feast of international sport that this time of year brings and comments on the controversy surrounding termination of Lote Tuqiri’s contract with the ARU.  He also makes mention of yet more drug controversy in sport and reminds members to register for the 2009 ANZSLA conference in Canberra. In my editorial I discuss the involvement of animals in sport.
