Welcome to Volume 77 of The Commentator. First up in this edition, Luke Hayward, a University of Canterbury student looks at the civil and criminal liability for injury or death of game officials. In the second article, Scott Cowell, Senior Associate, Moray & Agnew Solicitors, Brisbane discusses the Queensland Supreme Court decisions, at first instance and on appeal, of Pollard v Trude where a golfer was injured by a flying golf ball. Following on, Fiona Aitkin, another University of Canterbury student, discusses in detail, the defences available in criminal action taken after on field incidents leading to serious injury or death. Anzsla President, Ian Hunt comments on the state of rugby league in NZ following the report into its governance. He also reports on the ANZSLA the strategic planning weekend and developments there and talks about the ANZSLA conference scheduled for Canberra on October. In my editorial I discuss impact of climate change on sport in small communities, particularly the long drought and fires in Victoria.
