Mathew Jessep

Mat Jessep is a commercial and corporate lawyer and business consultant with specialist skills and experience in Sports, Media, and Business legal issues, acting for clients all over Australia and in New Zealand, North America, the UK, Europe, Japan, and South East Asia.

Game Legal was established by Mat in 2019 to deliver focused corporate and commercial legal advice and assistance to clients involved in the Sport industry. Game Legal is 100% Australian owned and operated.

Mat is experienced in commercial and corporate legal matters, including transactional, contractual, procurement, company secretarial, governance, integrity, branding and IP, reputation management, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, and legal project management advice and support.

Beyond legal advice, Mat is an experienced independent integrity consultant and opened Game Integrity in 2022 after advising sports organisations and related stakeholders on integrity matters since 2013. Mat has acted for and advised Sport Integrity Australia, National Sporting Organisations, and various State Sporting Organisations on integrity policies, reviews, investigations, and reports.

Mat is admitted in the Supreme Court of NSW and is on the roll of the High Court of Australia. He is also an active member of the US-based Sports Lawyers Association (SLA) and is the subject co-ordinator and teacher of 'Esports & The Law' as a Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne Law School and also co-teaches the 'Sports Law' subject at the University of Technology Sydney in the Law Faculty. Mat previously developed and delivered the 'Sport Integrity & Ethics' subject at Victoria University.
