COMMUNICATIONS AND MEDIA LAW ASSOCIATION SEMINAR:
INTEGRITY IN SPORTS:  ensuring fair play for our sports, our players and our brands

It's been a particularly big year for integrity in the Australian sporting landscape.  We've been shocked by ball tampering and the overseas imprisonment of a Melbourne footballer player; there has been a steady flow of scandals involving players to which the sporting bodies have had to respond; and just this month the Government has issued its response to the Wood Review - the most comprehensive review of sports integrity arrangements ever undertaken.

The sporting sector generates approximately $35-47 billion of economic activity for the Australian economy each year (roughly equivalent to the agriculture sector)*, and 14 million of us participate in some form of sport. Integrity is clearly key to protecting the value of such an important sector - for the codes and players, for the fans, for the companies whose businesses depend on confidence in our sports, and for the brands who closely align themselves with sporting codes, teams and players.

Join us for a panel discussion with:

  • Joe Collins, General Manager Integrity & Senior Legal Counsel, NRL
  • Simon Hill, Football Commentator and Journalist, Fox Sports Australia
  • Melissa Hopkins, Head of Marketing, Optus
  • Moderated by Rebecca Lindhout, Special Counsel, HWL Ebsworth Lawyers
