Laura has worked in sports, entertainment and labour law, and is currently employed by the AFL Players’ Association. She is also the Deputy General Secretary of the Australian Athletes’ Alliance (the peak body of athlete associations) and acts for the Australian Basketballers’ Association. Laura’s first position in sports was with the Major League Baseball Players’ Association in 1986.
Laura has negotiated collective bargaining agreements, individual employment contracts, agents’ contracts, and agreements in settlement of disputes. She has successfully represented athletes, sports agents, sportscasters, actors, disc jockeys, announcers, and others in arbitration. She has also been a member of various sports tribunals. Laura has a keen interest in advancing the rights of women in sport and worked on the first collectively bargained contracts for the Matildas and for the AFLW.
She holds a BA from Carnegie-Mellon University, a JD from Fordham University Law School, and an LLM from the Vrije Universitait Brussel (Hon). Laura is admitted to legal practice in New York and Victoria.
Laura lives in Olinda and Melbourne with her partner, Jeff, with whom she happily moved to Australia in 2002. She is a dual citizen of Australia and the US.
