Response to COVID-19

ANZSLA and the Japan Sports Law Association (JSLA) invite you to attend a webinar discussing the COVID-19 responses from two major sports events – the Australian Open 2021 and Tokyo 2020 with guest speakers: Daniel Stuk (Senior Legal Counsel, Tennis Australia); and Shoichi Sugiyama (Partner, Field-R Law Offices, Japan).  Daniel will be discussing his experience leading the biosecurity team for the 2021 Australian Open, focusing on the planning for and responses to COVID-19 and Shoichi will discuss the Tokyo 2020 Playbooks and the COVID19 planning underway for Tokyo 2020.   The session will be introduced by Rebecca Hooper (ANZSLA Director; and Legal Counsel, New Zealand Rugby).

Daniel Stuk, Senior Legal Counsel, Tennis Australia 

 

Daniel Stuk is a Senior Legal Counsel at Tennis Australia, based in Melbourne. Daniel led the Tennis Australia biosecurity team for the 2021 Australian Open, focusing on COVID-19 compliance.  He is also a member of the ANZSLA Sports Tribunal Referral List, having previously acted as a Chair and Panel Member in disciplinary hearings for National and State Sporting Organisations, such as Motorcycling Victoria and the Australian Ice Hockey League.  Daniel has been shortlisted for the upcoming 2021 Lawyers Weekly Corporate Counsel Awards in the category of Sports and Entertainment Lawyer of the Year.  His work and research on ticket scalping, part of which was published in the ANSZLA Journal, continues to shape the conversation on anti-scalping legislation in Australia.

Shoichi Sugiyama, Partner, Field-R Law Offices, Japan 

 

Shoichi Sugiyama is a Tokyo-based lawyer and Partner at Field-R Law Offices. He supports Japan Professional Baseball Players Association and has been working on COVID-19 Return to Play issues. He is also a Case Manager to Japan Sports Arbitration Agency, the independent dispute resolution center for sport-related disputes in Japan. In addition, he is a member of the managing committee of the pro bono lawyers services project for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
