Legal Counsel (Regulations & Compliance – In House) - New Zealand Rugby

New Zealand Rugby, one of New Zealand’s largest sporting organisations, is looking for an enthusiastic and diligent solicitor to join our legal team in the Regulatory space.  This newly created role will predominantly assist with advice, drafting, monitoring and enforcement of New Zealand Rugby’s complex on-field and off-field regulatory framework from elite through to community level rugby. The successful applicant will also be responsible for monitoring professional player employment contracting across the Provincial Unions, and will be called on to provide advice as required for the wider legal team, including within both commercial and non-commercial areas of New Zealand Rugby’s business.

 

You will enjoy a dynamic and varied role, including all aspects of regulatory and compliance for the game in New Zealand, overseeing New Zealand’s international player clearances process, managing the player insurance scheme, managing player eligibility for our domestic rugby competitions, and assisting with the ongoing monitoring and management of the Provincial Union Salary Cap. 

 

Our successful applicant will need to bring excellent attention to detail, and an ability to quickly understand, interpret and apply World Rugby and our domestic competition regulations in a fast-paced role with numerous internal and external stakeholders. You will need initiative, sound judgement and an ability to work flexibly in a busy team environment. A love of sport would be an advantage.

The ideal candidate must obtain a clear Ministry of Justice Criminal Convictions check and all applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
