General Legal Counsel (Part Time) - Champion Data 

  

Champion Data is a privately-owned Australian sports statistics, media and technology Company delivering market leading research, content, technology and television solutions to media, sport organisations and other professional clients.

 

We work across major Australian sports including AFL, NRL, Rugby Union, Football and Netball.

 

Currently we have 80 permanent employees and approximately 280 casual employees throughout Australia.

 

THE ROLE

 

Working one to two days per week and based in Melbourne the General Legal Counsel will be responsible for the following:

 

·         Review of sell side contracts

·         Review of buy side contracts

·         Preparation and negotiation of sell side contracts

·         Development of compliance frameworks, training and monitoring

·         Standardisation of service and support functions within existing sell side contracts

·         Assistance in negotiation of key commercial and legal terms of large bespoke contracts

·         Ad hoc advice as required

·         Dealing with complex matters across multiple stakeholders including Governing Bodies, Elite Performance Clubs and
          Rights Holders

 

THE CANDIDATE

 

The role requires a self-motivated person with knowledge in technology, software, support and maintenance, media, data and sport as well as the following skills and experience:

 

·         Qualified lawyer with demonstrated post qualification experience preferably in the areas of knowledge outlined above

·         Strong organisational skills, an ability to multi-task and good application of common sense

·         Practical application of law and realistic assessment of risk and return in making decisions

·         Excellent negotiation skills

·         A strong personality that can help drive internal change

·         Confident presenter with skills in building rapport and relations with key internal and external stakeholders

·         A team player

·         Can work at a fast pace and is responsive and able to think on their feet

·         Person who enjoys their work, is passionate about sport and is willing to invest in the company and its employees and
          enjoy themselves
