Legal & Regulatory Officer - Football NSW

Football NSW is the governing body for Association Football and Futsal in New South Wales (except for the northern regions which are governed by Northern NSW Football) and is a member of the national governing body, Football Federation Australia (FFA).

With over 230,000 registered players, Football NSW is the largest member federation in Australia and the largest State Sporting Organisation.  Football NSW governs 32 member-associations and runs several elite semi-professional competitions that are just below the top tier of professional football in Australia, the A-League.

This is an exciting opportunity that would suit a junior lawyer with a passion for Football. This role will expose you to all aspects of the business of Football NSW but with a focus on disciplinary matters.  Football NSW is conveniently located at Valentine Sports Park in Glenwood.

ROLE PURPOSE

Your primary role will be to manage all of Football NSW’s disciplinary and football regulatory processes. This includes managing all on-field and off-field misconduct matters, including reviewing matters, drafting charges and issuing warning letters, suspensions and other penalties in accordance with Football NSW’s rules and regulations.

The role also includes supervising, coordinating and appearing before disciplinary and grievance tribunals established by Football NSW and assisting in the delivery of best practice disciplinary processes to Football NSW stakeholders.  On a daily basis, you will be interpreting and applying a range of competition and disciplinary regulations issued by Football NSW and FFA.  This role has a high level of autonomy and responsibility.

In the role, you will also work closely with the Head of Legal & Governance in providing legal advice to Football NSW’s business units, including compliance, corporate governance, employment, litigation, intellectual property, insurance, privacy, procurement, venue hire and general commercial matters.
