Sports Law Update Webinar:

A Year in Review of Australian, New Zealand and International Cases

ANZSLA invites you to attend an update on developments in Australian, New Zealand and international sports law cases from 2019/2020 from three distinguished experts:  Andy Gibson (ANZSLA Life Member) on Australian cases; Prof Elizabeth Toomey (University of Canterbury) will discuss New Zealand cases; and Prof Jack Anderson (University of Melbourne) will discuss other cases from around the world.   The session will be introduced by Martin Ross (President, ANZSLA).

Andy Gibson, ANZSLA Life Member 

 

Andy Gibson is an academic and author who has been actively involved with ANZSLA for many years and was Director of Finance from 2004 to 2012. He is currently teaching and researching in the area of Sports Law. He is the foundation editor of the CCH looseleaf on Australian Sports Law, which was first published in 1998. He has also written the Australian Sports Law Tab for Kluwers International Encyclopaedia of Laws (which he has just finished updating). He is also a reviewer of the International Sports Law Journal and is a member of the Editorial Review Committee of the ANZSLA Sports Law Journal. He has also been on the Judging Panel for the ANZSLA Paul Trisley Award and is the Chair of the ANZSLA Scholarship Committee. He has been involved as a speaker in numerous seminars around Australia for the Standing Committee on Recreation and Sport, various state and territory Departments of Sport and Recreation, as well as ANZSLA for a range of sporting bodies on governance issues in sport, sports tribunals and future directions of sports law.

Professor Elizabeth Toomey, University of Canterbury

 

Elizabeth Toomey is Professor of Law at the University of Canterbury. One of her specialties is sports law. She teaches an undergraduate course in the subject and supervises research projects on the topic at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. She has published refereed articles on the subject both nationally and internationally and has presented conference papers on sports law around the globe. She and her co-author, the late Colin Fife, published the 3 ed of Sports Law in New Zealand (International Encyclopaedia of Laws, Kluwer Law International, The Hague, Netherlands) in January 2019.

 

 

 

Professor Jack Anderson, Director of Sports Law Studies, University of Melbourne

 

Jack Anderson is Professor and Director of Sports Law Studies at the University of Melbourne. He is a member of World Athletics’ Disciplinary Tribunal, the integrity unit of the International Hockey Federation and the International Tennis Federation’s Ethics Commission. In 2020, he was appointed to the Board of Harness Racing Victoria and as a member of the National Sports Tribunal.
