The "Major Events - planning for Australia’s green and gold decade of sport” session will delve into and discuss the arrangements for bidding, planning and delivering major events. The session will discuss the bidding process, options for setting up structures for delivery, what is involved in the planning process, what elements are involved in delivering major events and what are the emerging activities and opportunities to capitalise on. Speakers on the panel are experienced from LOC’s, Authorities, Policing, Government, and event delivery.

MAJOR EVENTS - PLANNING FOR AUSTRALIA'S GREEN AND GOLD DECADE OF SPORT

Jane Fernandez (Executive General Manager, Operations, Rugby World Cup 2027)

 

Jane Fernandez is one of Australia’s leading Sports Administrators. Most recently, Jane led the successful Bid to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup and as Chief Operating Officer (Australia) of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, she was instrumental in guaranteeing this international event was the most successful and transformative edition of the tournament ever.

 

Previously, Jane was Head of Sport for the Australian Olympic Committee managing key aspects of Australia's participation in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and Tournament Director of the AFC Asian Cup 2015. Her career in major sports events spans more than 20 years and includes the 2003 Rugby World Cup and the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

 

Jane is passionate about the power of sport and major sports events to drive social change. She is determined to leave a positive legacy and make a difference through the development of women in sport by creating a platform for gender equality whilst also promoting Australia on the global sporting stage.

Chris Grant (Senior Legal Counsel, Australian Grand Prix Corporation)

 

Chris Grant is a Senior Legal Counsel with experience in both the public and private sector, specialising in construction and commercial law. 

 

Currently Senior Legal Counsel at the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, the organisation is responsible for hosting two prestigious international motorsport events in Australia – Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix and Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. Chris is an advisor to the business and provides advice across a range of legal and commercial areas in a complex stakeholder environment.

 

This role combines Chris’ passion for the law within the sports and major events industry. He prides himself on approaching situations with a collaborative working style to understand the problem and offer solutions that are best for business whilst mitigating legal risks.

 

Chris holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Deakin University and was recognised for his professional achievements by being named as a finalist for Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 - Sport & Entertainment in 2024
